The Mountain of "La Rhune" is not very high in comparison with the "Pic du Midi de Bigorre" (2865m) in the Hautes Pyrenees, or "Mont Blanc" (4807m) in the Alps. La Rhune is only 905m above sea level. But, there are 2 things which you can't do on the other two ! |

Built at the turn of the century in 1924 and perfectly maintained, the train is an authentic collector's piece. It runs every day in the summer and takes passengers from Ascain up to the summit restaurants and shops in a slow climb (8 km/h) during 35 minutes.
Opening hours : In 2011 the train runs every day the 13th of November.
Departures every 35min from 9.30am to 11.30am and 2pm to 4.30pm.
July 11 to August 31: guided tour. Departures every 35min from 8.30am to 6/6.30pm.
There is also a hiking path from the train station up to the summit, which takes about 2h30 up and 2h down.
